You can search for an engine shaft based on the number of teeth and the total length in relation to this searching method. First, you enter the number of teeth on the outside followed by the number of teeth on the inside and then the total length. You can easily measure this length using callipers.
Tip: Add a dot using a waterproof marker pen when counting the teeth. Start counting at the dot until you have counted them all. This is a practical method to be sure that you are counting correctly.
In combination with the sun gear, an motor shaft is in charge of the transmission of the hydraulic motor to the reduction side. The motor shaft and sun gear are interconnected through a gear connection. When the teeth are worn, they run over each other and only the hydraulic motor will be running.
Your machine can, of course, stop working because your final drive is broken. It is, however, not always necessary to replace your final drive completely. It can also be sufficient sometimes to only replace one part of your final drive such as your motor shafts.
If you do hear the hydraulic motor turn, but your sprocket does not turn any more, your motor shaft is probably worn. Once you have disassembled the final drive and removed the sun gear from the motor shaft, you will see it immediately: the teeth are worn at this connection. You can test the wear by putting back the sun gear in the motor shaft and turning it. If the teeth are still fine, the sun gear will also turn. If the sun gear does not turn in the motor shaft, the motor shaft is worn.
Since the sun gear and motor shafts are interconnected, there is a chance that they may also become worn at the same time. Are you wondering whether you should be replacing both parts? See here what a worn motor shaft and sun gear look like or contact us.
