Fiat-Hitachi was founded in 1986 by a joint venture between Fiat and Hitachi to produce excavators. The production took place in San Mauro Torinese, Italy from 1988 onwards.
They also produced excavators and skid steer loaders in Imola, Italy at the Benati factory, while rack loaders, wheel loaders and bulldozers were built at the Astra plants. The partnership came to an end in March 2001 when Fiat established a new partnership called Fiat Kobelco.
