AB Åkerman Gjuteri & Mekaniska Verkstad built their first excavator in 1939 in Sweden. In 1945, AB Landsverk built its first excavator. After this, Åkerman and Verkstad built their first hydraulic excavator in 1962 and AB Landsverk also introduced one in 1968. In 1972 AB Landsverk's excavator production was transferred to AB Åkerman Gjuteri & Mekaniska Verkstad. After years of building excavators, Åkerman's experienced engineers started working under a new brand, Volvo, in 1997.
